David Whitely is a Front End Web Developer who lives in Brooklyn, New York. He was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1981. He spent his early years swimming, skiing, walking his dog, playing with friends, and causing mischief. In 2000, he received a grant from Northwestern University to play upright bass in the Jazz Studies Program. After bopping around for a few years learning music theory, technique, scoring, arranging, composition, and improvisation, David switched to the incredibly interesting Music Technology Program. After graduating in 2004, David did freelance video-game sound design and composition, interned at recording studios, and worked as a Webmaster for Architectural Artifacts, a salvage company and event space.
David’s skills in cataloguing and organizing precious works of art eventually landed him a job at the museum software company, Willoughby Associates. There he helped develop a web based add-on product to the company’s content management system. He also installed, trained, and maintained software for dozens of museums over the US and the UK. Some of which include the National Galleries of Scotland Modern Art Galleries, Museum of Edinburgh, New Orleans Museum of Art, Smith College Museum of Art, and the Block Museum. Eventually, David left Willoughby and took on a position at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. His main project while there was developing, designing, and implementing a museum intranet. He also handled various information technology related issues, as well as some junior development on the museum’s main website mcachicago.org.
